Despite the pop-rap music he makes, Post Malone has never been shy about telegraphing his love of metal, hardcore and, especially, grunge. In the past, Posty has covered Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains songs, and over the weekend, he got to take his homage one step further.
During an unexpected link-up at the Reportin' For Duty benefit concert in Shelbyville, Tennessee, on Saturday night (February 17th), Post Malone hit the stage with Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder to play through the grunge titan's song "Better Man," and then a cover of Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down."
Post previously covered "Better Man" by his lonesome in a 2022 appearance on Howard Stern, but this time he got to strum and sing along with the guy who wrote the Vitalogy classic.
Then, the two guys continued the acoustic performance with Petty's "I Won't Back Down," a song that Pearl Jam themselves have been covering live for decades.
See photos and footage of Post and Vedder's collab below.
Notably, the set went down a few days after Pearl Jam announced their new album, Dark Matter, which you can pre-order on vinyl and CD from our shop.
