Last night, Wednesday, April 13, Black Label Society frontman Zakk Wylde made a surprise appearance on American Idol, performing the Sammy Hagar classic "Heavy Metal" with Idol contestant James Durbin. You may remember Durbin as being the first American Idol contestant to ever sing a Judas Priest song on the show, when he belted out "You've Got Another Thing Comin'" earlier in the season (video here.) Check out the video below, and tell us what you think in the comments!

Canadian heavy metal power trio Cauldron have released the video for their new single, "All or Nothing," taken from the band's sophomore album, Burning Fortune. Watch the clip below.

Commented singer/bassist Jason Decay: "The video is basically a concentrated day, or a final straw in the life of Cauldron. We based the concept around the lyrics of the song, which is a bit of an ongoing theme with Burning Fortune. We went for a bit of an edgy type of music video rather than the same old thing 'cause we figured we wouldn't get played on TV anyway. It was directed by Kevin MacAllister who normally does videos for Lush Cosmetics. We got hooked up through a friend who used to work there and just went for it. Ian [Chain, guitarist]'s scene is actually shot at the Lush factory in Toronto..."

Cauldron will join LA-based speed metal band Holy Grail for a North American tour starting on April 15. Cauldron will support Holy Grail on all U.S. dates, but due to an overwhelming demand from their Canadian fans, Cauldron will co-headline each date and play a longer set each night while in its homeland.

There has been a strong rock-and-roll undercurrent on American Idol this season—not that we watch or anything. First, James Durbin paid tribute to Judas Priest (video here), and now, Top 12 contest Casey Abrams has tried his hand at grunge, choosing to sing Nirvana classic "Smells Like Teen Spirit." Tell us what you think in the comments.

Power metallers Firewind, featuring Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Gus G., have just released a video for their track "Embrace the Sun", the new single off the band's most recent full-length, Days of Defiance. Check out the video below, along with a making-of feature.

Hell, the cult Eighties heavy metal band from the U.K., have released the music video for "On Earth As It In Hell," from their upcoming debut album, Human Remains and can be viewed below. The video was directed by Kristian Harvard. Producer, and current Hell guitarist, Andy Sneap comments on the video: "The video we shot at Wingfield Manor in Derbyshire, U.K. is literally five miles from where I live and the band used the same location in the video for 'Deathsquad' that they shot in 1983. Director Kristian Havard—who used to be in the band Xentrix—is a friend from when Sabbat used to tour with them in the late Eighties, so I called in a few favors.

"The band always were theatrical and out there image-wise. The great thing about Hell is we don't feel pigeon-holed into any category: we just do what we want. We are not looking at what's going on around us music-wise, playing catch up or following the latest trends. Personally, I think it's very rare that a concept comes across well on music video, so it was really out of ease to do a live performance. After all, this is really to introduce people to Hell."

The band, featuring original members Kev Bower (guitar/keys), Tony Speakman (bass) and Tim Bowler (drums), now complete the line up with David Bower on vocals and producer Andy Sneap on guitar, both replacing original singer/guitarist Dave Halliday who died in 1987. Human Remains is the band's debut album, which is due out this year via Nuclear Blast, and comes out 29 years since its formation and a series of demos and singles.
