Metallica recently headlined the Sonisphere Festival in Madrid. Javier Bragado was there to take the photos below. Roberto Villandiego delivered the following report:

Metallica always seem to find a way to keep their place atop the metal kingdom. With both the band's spirit and that of fans raised after the throwback Death Magnetic release, James, Lars, Kirk, and Rob take a break from working on their follow-up to hit the road this summer and play their landmark "Black Album" in its entirety. The excitement is palpable.

One of the events where this takes place is Sonisphere Spain (held in Madrid) which sees Metallica sharing the bill with other great bands such as Soundgarden, the Offspring, Slayer, Limp Bizkit, Mastodon, Evanescence, and Machine Head. It is here that it becomes obvious why Metallica are the biggest metal band on the planet. While the others seem to feel fatigue (Machine Head) or sleep through their set (Limp Bizkit) or need a warming-up period (Soundgarden), the Four Horsemen put on an extraordinary show. (Admit it, their recent performances have been nothing special, at least here in Spain.) The band destroys the stage immaculately on songs such as "Hit The Lights," "Master Of Puppets," "For Whom The Bells Tolls," "Battery" (accelerated as always), "One," and, indeed, that full review of the album that launched them to world domination. Listen again to "Wherever I May Roam," "My Friend Of Misery," or "The God That Failed." Each produces indelible memories for an audience of more than 60,000 people filling the Getafe Open Air stadium.

Fear Factory and Shadows Fall recently closed out their tour together in Santa Ana, California. It was a festive night. During Fear Factory's set, Tony Campos (Ministry, Static-X) came out and sang back-up vocals. Dino and their bass player Matt Devries did tequilla shots onstage. Photographer Stephanie Cabral was on hand to capture the mayhem as it went down.

Meshuggah have been touring in support of their crushing new record, Koloss, along with openers prog-sludge rockers Baroness, who drop their highly anticipated new double-album, Yellow & Green, in July. On May 6, they swung through the Fillmore in San Francisco, where photographer Stephanie Cabral was on hand to capture the mayhem as it happened. Check out what she saw of both bands below.

At the Carolina Rebellion festival this past Saturday, founding Korn guitarist Brian "Head" Welch, who split with the group in 2005, rejoined his former band onstage to play the opening song off their 1994 self-titled debut, "Blind." Now Korn have released photos of the group and the guitarist hanging out together backstage.

Welch left the band due to problems with drugs and alcohol, as well as a desire to turn his life over to religion. He currently leads his own group, Love & Death.

"It was so amazing Saturday night playin' with Korn," Welch said. "Reconciling with family is always good. So much love on stage and from Korn fans. Many tears shed. God is love." You can check out fan-filmed footage of the performance below.
