In a revealing Instagram post, musician and producer Grimes elaborates on her long-awaited upcoming album, which she reveals is called Miss_Anthrop0cene, explaining the record represents "the anthropomorphic Goddess of climate Change."
After outlining how the words "misanthrope" and "anthropocene" were used in the portmanteau title, the creator expounds that the central character in the conceptual album is "a psychedelic, space-dwelling demon/ beauty-Queen who relishes the end of the world. She's composed of Ivory and Oil," adding that her own illustrations of the demon queen can be found further back in her Instagram account. It's also revealed that the singer, who goes by "C" now, has an interview going live tomorrow, March 21st, her first "in a few years" due to negative experiences with music press in the past.
C also notes that an EP drop before the official album that focuses on her synth-based music is possible, as the new record will be mainly comprised of "mostly ethereal nu metal (ish)" music. The sonic shift is evident on the record's November-released lead single "We Appreciate Power" which introduced an the idea of a propaganda girl group "who embody our potential enslavement/destruction at the hands of Artificial General intelligence" as outlined in the lengthy post.
