Metallica have been celebrating the release week of their newest album, 72 Seasons — which dropped today (April 14th) — with a four-night residency on Jimmy Kimmel Live! On Monday night they played the album's lead single, "Lux Æterna," on Tuesday they ripped through the "Black Album" classic "Holier Than Thou," and on Wednesday they unleashed a fiery performance of "Master of Puppets." Last night, they concluded their residency with a thrashing take on the 72 Seasons single "If Darkness Had a Son."

The epic seven-minute song — which sees James Hetfield woefully proclaim that if the titular darkness had an offspring, then "here I am," a man stricken with "temptation," "yearning" and "quenchless craving" for some unnamed sin — was reworked to a tight, power-packed five minutes for the broadcast. 72 Seasons is out today via the band's own Blackened Recordings. Get your copy here.
