Death Metal outfit Deicide have begun work on their ninth studio album at Florida's Morrisound Studios, the follow up to their 2006 album The Stench of Redemption.

With a confirmed title of Till Death Do Us Part', the record promises to be Deicide's most savage and aggressive to date. Drummer Steve Asheim has begun the process by laying down drum tracks on a set of tracks that retain all the high speed intensity of the last album, but throw in a few surprises along the way.

Drummer Steve Asheim has this to say on the process so far:

"The songs will have a very evil and chaotic nature to them and will include the extensive arrangements and riffage that made Stench so great."

Check out the following video for "Homage for Satan," from The Stench of Redemption.

Fans worried about recent stories concerning the demise of the band can rest easy according to Asheim. "There's no mistaking...it's Deicide. It feels like a cross between Stench and Legion, and is definitely the next logical step for Deicide."

Once the music is down, the final stage will be for Glen Benton to contribute his unique vocal approach, with recordings scheduled for completion as early as November. Till Death Us Do Part is expected to be released early 2008.

"We keep pushing what we do," concludes Asheim. "The guitars are even more sinister...the drums even more brutal. Deicide fans may be shocked at how fast this came around, but they're going to eat it up."

This video for Virginia new school thrashers Municipal Waste's "Headbanger Face Rip," off of their new record, The Art of Partying (Earache), was filmed by the legendary Eighties cult splatter/horror independent film company Troma Entertainment.

The following uncensored "gore version" of the video has been banned by You Tube because of its "inappropriate" content, ie it's filled with the legendary Troma-style blood, guts and gore seen in many of their genre-defining B-movie style shock flicks.

Check out the carnage below:

Home videos of underground metal bands weren't exactly commonplace in 1985, but that didn't stop Combat Records from issuing The Ultimate Revenge on VHS that year. The now legendary and out of print home video (click the cover to the right for a larger view) featured concert clips of Slayer, Venom and Exodus, who were touring the U.S. together on the Combat Tour Live.

The Slayer and Exodus performances on the video were filmed at the former disco haven Studio 54 in New York City on April 3, 1985, while the Venom clips came from other sources since guitarist Mantas was unable to appear at the April 3 concert, forcing Venom to use two fill-in guitarists in his absence and not wanting the live footage from that night to appear on the home video. Slayer and Venom (Cronos and Abaddon) were also featured on The Ultimate Revenge in backstage interview clips.

Below, check out the four Slayer songs that appeared on The Ultimate Revenge, as well as their chaotic backstage interview segment and an amusing Combat Records commercial that appeared at the end of the home video.

When Norwegian black metal legends Emperor came to America for a brief tour this past June, guitarists Ihsahn and Samoth took time out of their schedule to stop by MetalKult's New York City headquarters for an in-depth lesson on how to play some of their band's most memorable passages.

Among the songs they demonstrated were "I Am the Black Wizards," "Curse You All Men!" "Thus Spake the Nightspirit," "Inno a Satana" and others. Check out the full video lesson (with tablature included) below.

While you're at it, check out MetalKult's Q&A with Ihsahn, as well as our coverage of Emperor's live show at BB Kings.

On June 16, 2007, Total Fucking Destruction opened the Car Bomb, Genghis Tron and Pig Destroyer show at Club Europa in Brooklyn, NY, with one of their characteristically explosive sets. MetalKult was on hand to witness the frenzied Philadelphia band's most excellent assault.

Curious about the philosophy of Total Fucking Destruction, we cornered drummer/vocalist Rich Hoak backstage. The result is captured in the following clip, in which Hoak delivers a concise outline of the Total Fucking Destruction mission, including his band's connection to the slow motion apocalypse, playing grindcore and "partying, indubitably."

On April 29, 2007, Job For A Cowboy played a sizzling set at Irving Plaza in New York City. MetalKult was there and captured these young death metal upstarts in all their brutal glory.

Below is a live video from that show of "Embedded", the single from their Metal Blade debut, Genesis.

On October 23, 1988, at the Trocadero Theatre in Philadelphia, Combat Records brought together five of their premier acts—Raven, Dark Angel, Death, Faith or Fear and Forbidden—to film the follow-up to their now-classic Ultimate Revenge home video, which featured Venom, Slayer and Exodus.

"Left to Die"
"Pull the Plug"
"Forgotten Past"
"Denial of Life"

Led by the late Chuck Schuldiner on vocals and lead guitar, Death were the third band on the Ultimate Revenge 2 bill that evening, and burned through three cuts from their 1988 album, Leprosy—"Left to Die," "Pull the Plug" and "Forgotten Past"—as well as "Denial of Life," from their 1987 debut, Scream Bloody Gore.

On July 24, 2007, the Arkansas sludge metal crew Rwake rolled into the MetalKult offices in New York City, where they were in town to play a gig at Club Midway in support of their latest release, Voices of Omens (Relapse).

We pulled guitarists Gravy and Kiffin away from a serious band discussion on Death, Brutal Truth and finding parking in NYC for the following interview, in which the guys discuss a range of topics including how Southern culture has influenced Rwake's sound, Voices of Omens' classical arc, and tranny hookers dumping in alleys. Whoah!

On July 25, 2007, when Chicago instrumental band Pelican rolled through New York on their tour supporting their latest release, City of Echoes (Hydra Head), MetalKult had the opportunity to sit down with the always talkative and entertaining guitarist Laurent Lebec.

After soundcheck at the Luna Lounge in sunny Williamsburg, Brooklyn, we dragged Lebec across the street to the Black Betty bar, where we bought the guitarist some beers and got his thoughts on the past, present and future of Pelican. Check out the video below.

On June 19, 2007, we caught up with Jared Warren from Big Business at the Knitting Factory in New York City, where he and bandmate Coady Willis were headlining a show with Panthers and Hull.

After the bassist wrapped up soundcheck we retired to the backstage "lounge," cracked a few brews and discussed the finer points of his musical pedigree, Big Biz's connection to Tool and the Melvins, and the challenges of being a two-piece. Check out the interview below.
